Concentration of Environment and Energy Industries in the Osaka/Kansai Region
Currently, investments in environment- and energy-related industries are vigorous all around the world. Particular attention has been focused on fields pertinent to lithium-ion and other type batteries, and to new-energy sources, including photovoltaic power generation.
Japanese companies account for the majority of the world’s production of lithium-ion batteries. Of Japanese production, approximately 80% is produced in the Kansai region. Moreover, Japanese companies represent about 20% of world solar battery production, with roughly 70% of Japan’s solar battery production occurring in the Kansai region.
In recent years, environment- and energy-related companies have become concentrated in the Osaka/Kansai region, especially around Osaka Bay. The Kansai region is now transforming into the world factory of solar batteries. In the future, active capital investments are expected to continue in the battery industry, further accelerating industrial revitalization of the region. |
