  1. 10 Japanese machine tool makers are to start providing remote control and maintenance services using the Internet and IT in order to assist machine tool users in Asia.

  2. A leading maker of precision-made springs is to introduce a delivery guarantee system which no payment receives from customers if a shipment is even just one day overdue.

  3. All kinds of services tailored to individual consumer preferences are beginning to emerge. These include a cosmetics manufacturer that creates original cosmetics for customers after consulting them to determine their personal tastes, and a restaurant that provides 20 kinds of spices at the tables so that customers can put the finishing touches to their meals themselves to suit their palates.

  4. A boutique that opened selling ladies' suits, dresses, sweaters and skirts and men's jackets and slacks for just \100 across the board attracted 2,000 shoppers in its first two days. Selling only brand-new articles with a normal retail price of \1,000~20,000 for \100, the store always has 1,000 items in stock.

  5. Partly as a result of the strong yen, imports now account for 95% of all knitted products in Japan. Knitted goods manufacturers' associations around the country are consequently growing increasingly alarmed, and the National Federation of Knitted Goods Manufacturers' Associations has launched a campaign to protect domestic manufacturing.
